Big Time Innovation in the 21st Hack Me Up

Another edition of our now well-known HMU has just finished up its 21st edition here at Tuenti. The Hack Me Up is an internal programming contest that we periodically organize in which engineers and other Tuenti employees form small work teams and develop their own ideas for products and engineering alongside their regular daily work…And all within a matter of 24 hours.

More than 40 people were involved with the presentation of 12 projects, and this edition was centered on products integrating our MVNO and our apps, real-time communication, and other geeky ideas. The Tuenti engineers started getting their projects yesterday at 6 p.m. and many finished this very afternoon! They had dinner at the office and some even took naps before going back to programming.

Winners were determined by Tuenti team votes. In the Product category, the winners were David Santiago and Joaquín Engelmo, S&S. Their project shortened long URLs and making it easier and faster to share content on Tuenti.

The project that took home the geek vote, in which only participants in this edition’s HMU can vote, was Chat hipster backdoor, by Ovidiu Popa, that improved the speed of real-time notifications, making them even more “real”.
